Mt. Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania rising 4,600 m (15,092 ft) from its base. Around 25,000 people per year attempt to summit the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. In 1889, German geographer Hans Meyer and Austrian mountain climber Ludwig Purtscheller were the first to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. Click the links below for more information.

African National Congress (ANC)

The ANC is a national liberation movement formed on January 8, 1912 in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Its goals include the unification of the African people and spearheading the struggle for fundamental political, social and economic change in Africa. For nine decades the ANC led the struggle against racism and oppression, organising mass resistance, mobilising the international community and taking up the armed struggle against apartheid in South Africa.

West Africa Rice Development Association
The West Africa Rice Development Association is an autonomous intergovernmental research association with a mission to strengthen Sub-Saharan Africa's capability for technology generation, technology transfer and policy formulation. The 17 countries that comprise WARDA include Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, C�te d'Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. A primary goal of WARDA is to increase the sustainable productivity of rice-based cropping systems while conserving the natural resource base and contributing to the food security of poor rural and urban households. WARDA was established in 1970 and became a full-fledged member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) in 1986.

Born in 1909, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah trained as a teacher at Achimota College in Ghana and then in the United States and Britain, where he obtained his degrees. With others, he spearheaded the political advancement of Africa. Dr. Nkrumah help lay the foundations for the Organization of African Unity (OAU) which was a compromise between his ideal of a Union of African States and the more conservative leaders seeking a gradual approach to African unity.
