Government:
Mauritius is a parliamentary democracy operating under the 1968 constitution, which was amended in 1992. The national assembly elects the president for a five-year term. The president appoints the prime minister, who is the head of government and the council of ministers. Mauritius has a unicameral legislature, which consists of a 66-seat national assembly.
